Connor Smythe took the opportunity and scored from the halfway line in Pontefract Collieries' important 4-1 victory over Brighouse Town FC. The match and the goal were recorded with Veo and went viral.

“It’s one of those that, if it pops up again, I will watch as it’s not every day you score from past the halfway line from a kickoff.”

These are the words of 28-year-old Connor Smythe, who plays for Pontefract Collieries in the Northern Premier League East League. Back in April, they played against Brighouse Town in a crucial match for the playoff spots. The match was won 4-1, and one of the highlights came from Connor Smythe.

“I saw the goalkeeper quite far off his line and thought it was worth a go with the wind behind me. I watched it all the way and felt it had a chance. As it started to drop, I felt the adrenaline rush, thinking this was going in. Fortunately, it hit the net,” says the player about the goal he scored from the halfway line.

Immediately after the match, the goal was shared on social media, and since then, it has gone viral and been seen by millions.

“To be honest, you never expect it to happen, but to go viral for something positive is brilliant. The club shared it on Sunday, Northern Premier League by Monday, and it was on SkySports by Wednesday. It was a crazy few days.”

“Veo has completely changed the way games can be recorded.”

Both teammates, family, and friends congratulated Connor Smythe on the goal, which also meant that the player won the club’s Goal of The Season.

“My teammates were delighted with the goal for the position it set us up in the game and season. At our recent awards evening, I also received Goal of The Season. My family and friends were overjoyed at the goal, too, sharing it multiple times. I’m a teacher, so it’s also passed through our school with many students congratulating me, which is really nice.”

The goal was recorded with the club’s Veo camera, which stands on the sidelines and records all of the club’s matches. This is appreciated by the blue-clad players.

“Veo has completely changed how football games can be recorded and analysed at all levels. It’s had a really positive impact on seeing great moments back and sharing them online, reaching all over the world.”

“As a team, we have meetings and analyse different parts of games to see where we can improve and what we are doing well. This has greatly impacted our performances, as we can open discussions while replaying moments or parts of games. As a player, it is important for me to see how my game looks through the Veo to see if how it feels I am performing and affecting games is actually the case, and if not, work out what I could do differently to have more impact,” Connor Smythe ends.
