Winner of People’s Puskas: Mason Evans
Frederik Hvillum
The 18-year-old Ynyshir Albions FC winger won the 2023 edition of Veo’s People’s Puskas with his incredible volley.
With his remarkable volley, Mason Evans recently clinched the 2023 edition of Veo's People's Puskas award. Evans captured the hearts of football fans worldwide with his stunning goal, garnering over 7 million views and earning recognition from football legends like Robin van Persie and Billy Wingrove.
You won the second edition of the People's Puskas. Did you expect to go that far and win it?
When I scored that goal in September, I knew it would blow up immediately. I expected a couple of thousand views but ended up with over 7 million views across all platforms and even a retweet by van Persie himself and got recognition from Billy Wingrove.
Even though of all that, I didn’t expect to make the shortlist for the People’s Puskas. I’m from a small village in Wales and thought there would surely be better goals. But once I saw the goals I was up against, I became more confident day by day, and the only one I knew I'd have to work hard to beat would be Aaron Nash. To me, that was a hell of a final!
How did your teammates and friends/family experience the voting? Were they able to help you?
My family has my back in football, and I had no worries about them helping me because I always knew I had them by my side. The shares and comments they brought were outstanding. It gave me a really good chance to win.
Ynyshir did the exact same; they shared my goal on all platforms. Our local pub shared it, and it was quite an amazing show of support.
On the other hand, my friends created the most awareness; the whole county voted for me from them spreading awareness, but nothing would be possible without all three having my back.

Have you been using Veo for a long time? What’s its value for you and the club?
I've experienced Veo for a couple of years, both with ex-teams and Ynyshir. At Ynyshir, we use Veo week in and week out. Not just for highlights of goals. We use it to reflect on what we can approve for a more tactical purpose. We also use it for analysis of personal performances.
What are the teams' goals and your personal goals for this season?
My goals for this season will never change. It's always to improve myself from the season before, more achievements, more goals, and more trophies. That's just the player I am. I am very competitive.
For Ynyshir, it’s the exact same. We are looking to grab promotion, and with a struggling start, we are finding our feet now. It’s fair to say Ardal South West League is going to be tight at the top in the final games!
