Bookmarking: Q&A with Toby Keating
Magnus Holt
We’re introducing Bookmarking, the new feature that allows coaches and analysts to mark key moments of interest during a game in the Veo Camera app.
The bookmarks are linked to specific timestamps in the video and categorized as “Good” or “Bad” and “Offense” or “Defense”. You can also add quick notes to provide additional context or detail for each moment.
The bookmarks are accessible in real-time through the app, allowing coaches or parents to instantly replay these clips to share feedback during half-time or immediately after the game.
When the game is over, the bookmarks are uploaded along with the full recording and displayed in the Veo Editor. In the Editor, users can navigate the timeline or side panel using category tags to locate and review key moments. This streamlined workflow ensures that critical moments are not missed and are easily revisited for analysis or teaching purposes.
We met with Toby Keating, the product manager at Veo, and asked him about the background and considerations for the new feature.
Why was the Bookmarking feature developed, and what specific challenges does it address?
Firstly, we understand the importance of capturing and revisiting unique and specific moments, not always captured by statistics. When visiting clubs, we recognized coaches taking notes on the sideline, writing down timestamps, player initials, and specific tags. We knew we could make this simpler and more intuitive, integrating the video and making revisiting these moments instant and effortless.
How do you see it being used during games or training sessions, and who will benefit from this feature?
Learning moments are everywhere, and the ability to quickly take notes during practices or games ensures that no learning moment is overlooked. Coaches no longer need to pause the flow of practice; simply note feedback and send it over later. Being able to bookmark events lets coaches focus on the action; they no longer have to remember everything that happened and what they were thinking. The bookmarks capture the initial reaction and feedback, to be analyzed later.
How does Bookmarking differentiate Veo, particularly in terms of integration and functionality?
Bookmarking connects the Veo experience from the sideline to the editor. As an end-to-end solution, we’ve made it easy to capture your initial analysis, enhance your notes with video, and seamlessly give you the ability to quickly revisit these moments, either at half-time or after the game.
The game-day bookmarking experience is fast and easy to use. We’ve made it simple with just a few tags but provided a free text folder to add as much detail as needed. Bookmarks are designed to quickly capture the moment in order to remember the context later. We look forward to collecting feedback and collaborating with the community of coaches on how to make this experience even easier.
What are the perspectives for this new feature, and how do you see it evolving over time?
This feature is a bold step in the Veo gameday experience, enabling coaches, parents and players to capture more! We’ve already received an incredible amount of excitement and ideas for how to enhance and evolve the experience. From making it even easier to bookmark, tailoring the bookmarks, tagging players and adding audio. The direction will be guided by the users and we look forward to getting your insights to help lead the way!
